The Grief Map: ADEC Framework & EMDR Integration — Cohort 2 Pilot Study

About this event

The Grief Map: ADEC Framework & EMDR Integration — Founding Cohort 2 Pilot Study
Date: June 4 – July 30, 2026
Session 1: June 4, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM MST
Session 2: July 30, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM MST
This six-hour continuing education series is structured as a two-part training with an 8-week clinical application window between sessions. Session 1 introduces the Grief Map framework, the Dimensional Grief Scan, and the Adaptive Yearning Model. Participants then have 8 weeks to apply the Dimensional Scan to at least one current case before Session 2. Session 2 begins with that applied case as the working material — participants build the Grief Target Network from their own clinical data before moving into the relational field, polyvagal foundation, and self-of-therapist content.
The Grief Map integrates three instruments that grief therapy has long kept separate: EMDR therapy's eight-phase protocol, the ADEC body of knowledge, and the Adaptive Yearning Model (AYM). Participants develop proficiency in dimensional grief assessment using the Dimensional Grief Scan, target sequencing using the Grief Target Network, AYM-informed PGD diagnostic decision-making, the "Dimensionally Matched Interweave" as a processing tool, and the relational field — including the "Two-Brain Room," "Neuroceptive Encounter," and the clinician's own regulatory state as a clinical variable.
The Grief Map System
This training introduces a three-layer architecture:

The Grief Domain: Identifying the specific territory of the loss
The Dimensional Lens: Identifying which contextual forces are load-bearing
The Processing Arc: Locating the work within the eight phases of EMDR

Participants will learn to build a Grief Target Network, utilizing the Dimensional Scan as a clinical tool for:

Phase 1 (Intake)
Phase 3 (Assessment)
Phase 8 (Reevaluation)

The curriculum also addresses the relational dimension through:

The "Two-Brain Room" (polyvagal co-regulation)
The "Dialogical Encounter"

Prerequisite
Completion of an EMDRIA-approved EMDR basic training is required.
SECTION 1: Mandatory Attendance & CE Credit (NBCC-Governed)
Continuing Education (CE) credit for this activity is governed exclusively by NBCC policy. Rewired360 is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider (AaCEP No. 7491). CE credit is awarded independently from the live training and requires completion of all associated requirements.

Event Learning Objectives

  • 1. Articulate the three-layer clinical system of the Grief Map — the Grief Domain, the Dimensional Lens, and the Processing Arc — and explain how all three operate simultaneously in every grief session.
  • 2. Apply the Dimensional Grief Scan (DGS) across all ten ADEC dimensional indicators to generate a Grief Target Network for a current grief case.
  • 3. Identify at least two grief targets that dimensional assessment surfaces that symptom-based clinical assessment would not reach.
  • 4. Distinguish adaptive yearning from frozen yearning using the Adaptive Yearning Model (AYM), and apply the Bonanno/DSM-5-TR Prolonged Grief Disorder diagnostic distinction in clinical practice.
  • 5. Apply the Dimensionally Matched Interweave as the clinical tool for processing blocks with dimensional origins.
  • 6. Identify the relational field — including the Two-Brain Room, Neuroceptive Encounter, and Dialogical Encounter — as a clinical instrument operating in every grief therapy session.
  • 7. Apply polyvagal co-regulation concepts, including monitoring of the clinician's own regulatory state, to actively support client processing in grief sessions.
  • 8. Complete the Relational Grief Field Inventory (RGFI) as a self-assessment tool and identify one relational field variable currently affecting their grief-specialized clinical work.
  • 9. Articulate the Phase 8 Dimensional Generalization Check as the termination architecture confirming all active dimensions have been reached by processing.

GRIEF MAP PILOT STUDY
Study Participation Policy Guide
Kathy Couch, LCSW, FT · Rewired360™ · April 6, 2026 · V1.0
Sessions: May 21, 2026 and July 16, 2026 · 9:00 AM–12:00 PM MST · Both sessions required

PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT
This document states the full participation policies for the Grief Map Pilot Study CE Training Series. It governs three distinct but related areas: CE credit requirements (NBCC-governed), study participation requirements (investigator-governed), and the relationship between the two. Participants are expected to read this document before registering. The Pilot Study Notice on the CE-Go event page constitutes the participant-facing summary. This document is the full policy reference.

Policies Not In Ce Go Yet:

Frequently Asked Questions: Pilot Study Participation
________________________________________
Do I need to be currently seeing grief patients to participate? Yes, you can still join. The study primarily measures clinician discernment—your internal ability to recognize and categorize grief patterns based on the training. This is measured through built-in vignettes and knowledge assessments, which do not require you to have an active grief caseload.
What if I can’t apply the skills to a live case right away? That is perfectly fine. While the training is most clinically useful if you have active cases, the study treats "non-application" as a valid data point. If you don't have a grief-specific client during the study, you simply won't report on the "behavioral transfer" section at the end of the pilot.
How will my data be used if I don't have a grief-specific practice? Your baseline and post-training assessments are highly valuable. They help us determine if the curriculum successfully builds the capacity to see grief dimensionally, regardless of a clinician's current environment. Your participation helps us understand how the framework translates across different practice settings.
Am I a "lesser" participant if I only provide knowledge data? Not at all. The goal of this pilot is to see if the training works as an educational tool. By completing the assessments, you provide the core data needed to prove the study’s feasibility. The behavioral application data is considered optional enrichment, not a requirement for a "successful" participant.
Participants will not have access to the training video during the active study period. Access to the recording will be granted only after completion of the 30-day post-training evaluation. This policy is in place to preserve the integrity of the study’s outcome measures. By participating, individuals agree to complete the evaluation prior to receiving video access.

SECTION 1 — CE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS (NBCC-GOVERNED)
CE credit for this training series is governed exclusively by NBCC policy. Rewired360 is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7491. The following requirements apply regardless of study participation status.

1.2 — Camera On for Full Duration
Participants are required to have their camera on for the full duration of both sessions. Camera-on attendance is a condition of CE credit. Participants whose camera is off for extended periods will be noted by the attendance monitor.
Please ensure your camera is functional before joining. If you experience a technical issue, contact kathy@rewired360.com immediately.

1.3 — Attendance Monitoring
Attendance is monitored via Zoom and by a designated attendance monitor present for both sessions. Zoom attendance records are retained. Participants must be present and on camera to be counted as attending.
Attendance records are reviewed prior to certificate release. Participants who do not meet full attendance requirements will not receive a CE certificate regardless of study participation status.

1.4 — T2 Post-Activity Evaluation (CE-Go)
Participants must complete the T2 post-activity evaluation via their CE-Go attendee dashboard at the close of Session 2. This is a CE-Go platform requirement for certificate delivery and is distinct from study participation.
The T2 evaluation will be available immediately following Session 2. Certificate release follows T2 completion and attendance verification per NBCC requirements.

SECTION 2 — STUDY PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS (INVESTIGATOR-GOVERNED)
The Grief Map Pilot Study is a research initiative examining the clinical utility of the Grief Map framework. Study participation is voluntary and separate from CE credit. The following requirements apply to participants who wish to be included in the study data.

2.1 — T1 Pre-Training Survey (Condition of Study Entry)
T1 is the study baseline survey. It is delivered via Google Form link included in the registration confirmation email. Participants must complete T1 before Session 1 on May 21, 2026.
T1 completion is a condition of admission to Session 1 as a study participant. Participants who have not completed T1 prior to the session start will not be admitted as study participants. Their CE attendance may continue, but their data will not be included in the study.
T1 is not a CE requirement. It is a study entry requirement. Participants who do not wish to complete T1 may still attend the training and receive CE credit per NBCC policy, but will not be counted as study participants.
Participants must use their CE-Go registration email address when completing T1. This email is the linking variable across all three data collection points.

2.2 — T3 30-Day Follow-Up Evaluation (CE-Go)
T3 is delivered via a CE-Go second evaluation trigger 30 days after Session 2 (target: mid-August 2026). Participants have 14 days from the date of T3 delivery to complete it. Data collection for that participant closes at the end of the 14-day window.
T3 completion is strongly encouraged and is tied to an incentive: participants who complete T3 will receive the Documenting EMDR in the 8 Phase Protocol workbook at no charge.
T3 is not a CE requirement. Participants who do not complete T3 retain their CE certificate. However, incomplete T3 data limits the study's ability to address its 30-day behavioral transfer research questions.

2.3 — Enrollment Cap
Study enrollment is capped at 35–50 participants across all cohorts. Registration closes when the enrollment cap is reached. Participants who register after the cap is reached will be placed on a waitlist for Cohort 2 at investigator discretion.
Data close is enrollment-driven. The study closes when the combined cohort sample reaches 35–50 participants and the T3 14-day window has expired for all enrolled participants.

2.4 — Confidentiality
This study is confidential, not anonymous. Participant responses at T1, T2, and T3 are linked by CE-Go registration email address. This linking variable is used solely for the purpose of matching pre- and post-training data across time points.
Registration email addresses will not appear in any publication. All data is reported in aggregate only. Individual responses are not identified in any report, manuscript, or presentation.
In-session Zoom poll responses are anonymous. No participant identifier is attached to poll data. Poll data is reported descriptively at the group level only.

SECTION 3 — WITHDRAWAL FROM THE STUDY
3.1 — Right to Withdraw
Participation in the study is voluntary. Participants may withdraw from the study at any time by notifying the investigator at kathy@rewired360.com. No explanation is required.
Withdrawal from the study has no effect on CE credit. Participants who withdraw from the study but attend both sessions in full and complete the T2 CE-Go evaluation will receive their CE certificate per NBCC policy.
Data collected prior to withdrawal will be retained in aggregate analysis unless the participant explicitly requests data removal. Removal requests must be received before data close.

3.2 — Eligibility After Withdrawal
Participants who withdraw from the study prior to completing Session 2 are not eligible to be included in the study dataset. T1→T2 paired comparison requires data at both time points. Incomplete participant data is excluded from analysis.
Withdrawal after Session 2 completion does not remove T1 and T2 data already collected, unless the participant requests removal per Section 3.1.

SECTION 4 — CONSENT ARCHITECTURE
Research consent is established through three layers, consistent with the study design and the Grief Map framework's relational principles.

Layer 1 — Document Consent (T1 Checkbox)
A research consent checkbox is Item 1 of the T1 Google Form. By checking this box, participants confirm they have read the study policies, understand the three-instrument data collection design, and consent to participation.
Consent covers all data collection instruments: T1, T2, T3, and in-session Zoom poll responses.

Layer 2 — Verbal Consent (Session 1 Opening)
The trainer delivers a standardized verbal consent statement at the opening of Session 1. This statement explicitly names the anonymous Zoom poll design, the CE-Go evaluation instruments, and the linking variable.
Participants who have not completed T1 prior to Session 1 are identified at this point and their study status is clarified.

Layer 3 — Ecological Consent (Anonymous Polling)
In-session Zoom poll responses are collected anonymously at all points. No participant identifier is attached to poll responses. This design decision is grounded in neuroceptive safety principles: participants report more honestly when individual responses are unlinked from identity.
Anonymous polling is a structural feature of the study design, not an option. Participants cannot opt out of anonymity in poll responses.

SECTION 5 — PARTICIPANT-FACING PILOT STUDY NOTICE
The following is the exact text of the Pilot Study Notice displayed on the CE-Go event registration page. This notice must appear on all study event pages — Cohort 1 (May 21 / July 16) and Cohort 2 (Bekah, TBD) — before registration opens.

PILOT STUDY NOTICE — PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING

This training is part of the Grief Map Pilot Study (Couch, 2026), a research initiative examining the clinical utility of the Grief Map framework for EMDR-trained clinicians working with grief, loss, and prolonged grief disorder presentations. By registering, you are agreeing to participate in a confidential (not anonymous) study.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS (NBCC)
CE credit requires full attendance at both sessions (May 21 and July 16, 2026, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM MST each). Camera on is required for the full duration of both sessions. Attendance is monitored via Zoom and by an attendance monitor. No partial credit is awarded.

STUDY PARTICIPATION
Participation in the study includes completing three evaluation instruments:
· Before Session 1 (T1) — a Google Form link included in your registration confirmation email. T1 must be completed before May 21, 2026. T1 completion is required for study admission.
· After Session 2 (T2) — via your CE-Go attendee dashboard at the close of Session 2. Required for CE certificate delivery.
· 30 days after Session 2 (T3) — via your CE-Go attendee dashboard in mid-August 2026. Participants who complete T3 receive the Documenting EMDR in the 8 Phase Protocol workbook at no charge.

CE CREDIT
CE credit (6 NBCC CE hours) requires full attendance at both sessions and completion of the T2 post-activity evaluation. CE credit is governed by NBCC policy and is separate from study participation.

WITHDRAWAL
Study participation is voluntary. You may withdraw at any time by contacting kathy@rewired360.com. Withdrawal from the study does not affect CE credit if full attendance requirements are met.

DATA
Your registration email is used as a linking variable across T1, T2, and T3. Responses are confidential and reported in aggregate only. In-session poll responses are anonymous.
